10 Days and Busy Busy Bizzzyy!

Hi guys!
Well, it's been 10 long days since my last update here but I'm back and ready to go.
Part of this due to my other demanding job at  http://www.thefontdiva.com.

I've been reading up on some books these past couple of days and I'm hoping to have a review up this next week on a very special book :)

On another note - My book release date is now confirmed (as shown in the cover reveal) as being MAY 1!  HOORAY!

I've got a great book blitz coming up hosted by the fabulous Bookish Brunette, as well as....

*DRUM ROLL*

I've been actually writing my SEQUEL to COLOR KEEPERS!

OMG!

I know, some of you may not understand why this is such a huge deal, but it's taken me such a long time to get to it. I've kept putting it off and putting it off, writers block big time and then just plain laziness! FINALLY though, I have gotten my lazy hands up and onto my keyboard!

I'm hoping to have it done by Nov of this year and out and ready by Christmas :) That would be ideal.

Well, I hope all of you have a fantastic weekend. In the meantime, please enjoy reading a snippet from my upcoming book "The Color Keepers"

The Color Keepers

The closer we got the more dangerous everything seemed to get.  I could see crows circling the overhead of the castle and lightning struck the tallest tower.  "Emily, we're going to have to figure a way in.”

"I agree.  I mean, I can't go knocking on the door like the Avon lady."  He chuckled and nodded his head in agreement.  "The closer we get, the better we'll see the architecture of the building.  Maybe there's another door."
He started up the motor again and we started our way up the black winding road.  I looked back and the city lights were blurry and fuzzy.  You could barely see them through the thick dark fog that surrounded us.

Halfway up the road, a very familiar crow darted from the sky.  It crowed and landed on our handlebars.  "Well, just the two I'm looking for.  Her Majesty is going to be very pleased with me.”  Sam stared into his eyes and the bird's eyes became a crimson red.  I decided to try reasoning.  "You're Damien, right?"  The crow darted its eyes towards me and started to cackle.  "Yes I am, very good memory, Lady Emily."  "Damien, just let us pass."  He started to cackle again and stepped back to stare at both of us.  "I don't think so."

Blog Hop Day!

Hi Guys!
So today is thursday - and you know what that means? BLOG HOP!
What IS a blog hop you ask? Well... it's a blog event where I answer some questions about my upcoming writing and authorly evdeavours. I then tag 5 other authors and they do the same in a weeks time :) It's a great way to find out what your favorites are writing while being introduced to other authors! I definitely encourage the authors I've tagged to go and say "hello" to each other!

I would like to thank L.G. Castillo for tagging me in today's blog hop.

So without further ado - here goes!

1. What is the working title of your book?
The Color Keepers

2. Where did the idea come from for your book?
Actually, I had dreamt it. I was around 14 yrs old at the time, and I wrote down everything that happened. As time progressed and my writing skills got better, I decided to use the idea as the base of my novel :)

3. What genre does your book come under?
Young teen Fantasy/Adeventure

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Ooohh - Definitely a hard one. I've been asked this question before, but I always change my mind! I think I should stick with the more main characters. First our three heroes :)

Emily - She's definitely a shy kid... she's got a lot of issues with her family and it's hard for her to make friends. A loner. So the actress definitely has to be a GOOD actress. Which is why... I choose:

Hailee Steinfeld -
I loved her in "True Grit".
AMAZING actress!

Second character - would be her crush/love, Sam :) This is someone who has to PERSONIFY cool. Someone who can carry that swag in and bring it to the table, yet also be clumsy, funny and a bit of a wimp when you get to know him more. That is why I choose...

Josh Hutcherson -
Really amazing young actor :)

Next up, Emily's goofy and lovable 12 year old sarcastic twit of a brother, James.
Now the kid who plays him has to be as cute as a button, not to mention a good actor and someone who can pull off being cute AND annoying. Which is why I choose:

Asa Butterfield -
Loved him in "Hugo"!

Last but not least, the most evil, yet beautiful woman in the book. THE CROW QUEEN!
This is someone who has to have the most beautiful face, yet pull off being a total witch! She has to be evil, yet show a soft side. Which is why I'd LOVE to see -

Liv Tyler -
Loved her in "Lord of the Rings"!
Would really love to see an evil side :)

5. What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?
A young girl, must overcome her inner turmoil to save the world, with the help of the two she trusts most.

6. Is your book self-published,  published by an independent publisher, or represented by an agency?
Self pub :)

7. How long did it take you, to write the first draft of your manuscript?
Oh, sheesh. I'd say the actual writing of it, took about a few months, but it took almost 3-4 year to perfect it. As I matured, there were things I needed to change.

8. What other books would you compare this story to, within your genre?
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. As far a whole new world and all the characters, some might see an Alice in Wonderland type feel. It also has a bit of a Narnia feel :) As it involves going THROUGH a doorway to another world. Much like Alice and Narnia. The characters, the talking animals.... definitely.

9. Who or what inspired you to write this book?
I, much like the main character of my book, tend to put myself down a lot of the time. I was really unsure about finishing it AT ALL, let alone publishing it. My grandmother, stuck with me and persuaded me to keep going. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be doing any of this :)

10. What else about your book might pique the reader's interest?
I really think that the whole idea of a new fantasy world for kids/teens to go into is such a great thing. Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter... they were all books that involved another world, somewhere that was an escape from reality. I think that really is necessary growing up. You need to have your own little world to go into. I'm really hoping that this series can eventually grow into something huge :) I'd really love that.

Okay - So below you will see all the authors I have tagged to take part in this :) Be sure to mark it on your calendars if you see an author you love! Even if you don't know who they are, go check em out, cause they might have a book that will become your new FAVORITE! :)

1. Kristen Iversen - http://ingeriversen.com/blog
2. Claire Svendsen - http://clairesvendsen.blogspot.com
3. Ruthi Knight - http://ruthikay.blogspot.com
5. Andrea Heltsley - http://andreaheltsley.blogspot.com

That's all for today folks :) Get ready for the big cover reveal this upcoming Monday! :)

The Importance of Cover Art

Hello everyone!
So I'm back to talk about something I feel is very important!
The EVER important issue of never judge a book by it's cover.

Unfortunately in this day and age, cover art is a massive part of the e-book/real book world. If your cover is boring and not very engaging, I'm sad to say that most people, including myself, will not pick it up and most CERTAINLY won't purchase it.

I also believe in the importance of a good title and fonts, but that's for another blog!

Good cover art is essential in catching the reader's eye. I can't count how many times I've seen a cover with a singular object and some sparkles, leaving the author wondering why it didn't sell. All I know, is that color, a point, and good technical effort is involved. Not to mention the cover having SOMETHING to do with the storyline. Nothing is worse than having a romantic type cover, happy and  full of love on a book having nothing to do with romance and more about horror and death. Or perhaps, a completely "blah!" cover on a story worthy of so much more!

That is why I urge all authors to seriously think about their cover art.

Next step, would be to "investigate" or "study" cover artists. Don't ever go with them just because other people say good things. Some of them rush jobs, and some of them make you wait weeks, sometimes MONTHS until a cover is shown. Most times, nothing worthy of the wait. Some distressing stories have even popped up about cover artists who take either full amount or half up front and never return emails. No cover in sight and you're out anywhere from $50-$500. Unfortunately, I will also say that cheap, doesn't always mean better. Sure, you can get some AMAZING covers for cheap, but communication and professionalism is just as important as anything else.

I always tend to tell others to look at their portfolio too, not just their other book covers. What is their every day art like? Is it appealing to you? Is the STYLE something that you want/like?

I've had my cover art done by the amazing Phatpuppy Art. Someone who is all the things mentioned above and as fast as a tornado. I also owe my thanks to the font artist, who also has the big job of making the words match the feeling of the cover. Thank you, Bookish Brunette!

I will add links to the bottom of my blog, if you'd like to check any of the two out :)

Please feel free to use the comments to discuss further on the topic!

Also, keep watching out for the second best day of the year, April 1st! My cover reveal! First best being the re-launch on May 1st :)  "The Color Keepers" is coming soon!!!!!

Oz the Great and Powerful

Hello all!

So, as explained yesterday, we went to see the movie "Oz the Great and Powerful".
I'm going to now post a semi lengthy review for your reading pleasure!

****SPOILER ALERT AHEAD****

The movie begins with a fantastic opening sequence. Black and white as the traditional Wizard of Oz was started. Danny Elfman was the main music man so I DEFINITELY have no issues with his compositions. To me, the man is a musical genius. Tim Burton movies just wouldn't be the same without his music. Anyway, back on point. It starts with a small square of the screen occupied in the middle, to reflect old movie reel type size. I loved this decision as it was very reflective of the time. Oscar, or Oz as he's more commonly known. Is a wizard. Well, a wizard of SORTS. He's a magician who wishes to become as big as Harry Houdini himself, as inventive as Thomas Edison and more than that, he wants GREATNESS! Now, in my personal opinion, James Franco is a okay/good actor. I loved him in Spiderman and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. However, he was a bit off base in this movie. His acting was over the top and at times becomes very "hammy". Although I understand he is playing a magician who must put on a "show"... I have seen many other actors do this without looking as if they're acting it out. His more serious scenes in the movie, brought out the actor that he is and I loved those moments.  In the movie he plays quite the player. Tricking innocent young beauties to believe he has eyes for only them. Sadly, breaking a chain of hearts along the way. As the infamous tornado we all remember, whisks him away, we see yet again little bits of the original come through. Familiar objects flying around him in the eye of the storm and suddenly, it's COLORIZED!

The visual effects were incredible and the colors so vivid it blew my mind. I can only imagine how it would have been in a 3D setting. After making his crash landing in Oz, he then finds Theodora the good. Who immediately labels him as the champion of Oz because of a prophecy fitting his exact situation. We see him recognize Theodora's beauty and to no surprise try and pull his charms. She falls for him and wishes only to be his queen. He is escorted into the Emerald City where he meets Evanora (secretly the wicked witch of the east) who tells him he will be king, with untold riches if the wicked witch is defeated. He's not exactly jumping at the chance to kill someone, but the gold has him thinking otherwise so he sets off on his journey, along with his newly found friend Finley, the flying monkey, who has sworn a life debt to Oz for his help earlier in the film. He is told her wand lies in the dark forest, and he must take it and destroy it to defeat the witch. On the way there he meets up with the little porcelain girl who has lost her family due to the tyranny of the wicked witch. Now the three of them proceed into the dark forest. There they see a cloaked figure who they believe to be the witch herself. The figure sets down her wand and Oz goes to grab it. It turns out the cloaked figure is none other than Glinda the good witch... who strangely resembles a woman he truly loves in the real world. She explains how the real witch is Evanora, she poisoned their father and Theodora had no idea. An innocent. Over the course of the movie you see Glinda and Oz becoming closer and closer which causes Theodora, to get hurt. Her tears causing each tear falling to harm her. Not only physically, but mentally. She becomes hardened and Evanora takes advantage of this by giving her an apple which makes the transition. Theodora now becomes the wicked witch of the west. Green warts and all.
Oz and Glinda decide that since he is not TRULY a wizard, he should do what he does best. Cheat, outsmart and conjure. He using illusions and tricks to defeat and take back the Emerald City. While Glinda is busy fighting Evanora, Oz takes on Theodora, telling her that if she ever decides to become good again, she is welcome back anytime. She declines with a strong "NEVER!"and flys away on her broom. Banished from the city. Glinda breaks the enchantment on Evanora which allowed her to be beautiful and you see the witch turn from good to evil as Theodora did before her.

We all know this movie can only banish the two of them, as Dorothy finishes the job in the previous Wizard of Oz *sequel*.  At the end the wizard stays and falls in love with Glinda. Realizing his selfish ways weren't the right path and friendship and love mean more than gold and greatness.

The End

This movie had a lot of flaws, but also, a lot of good points. I think it would have been a solid five stars without James Franco as lead. Don't attack me, it's just an opinion! Perhaps Chris Hemsworth?

I could imagine him playing the player and the hero without a hitch. In my dreams, every movie would star Johnny Depp, but I think this role definitely needed a younger actor.

I think Michelle Williams is a fantastic actress and her portrayal of Glinda was spot on. Evanora, played by Rachel Weisz is fantastic. Then again, what do you expect from yet another brilliant actress?

Mila Kunis... ehhh... I had a few problems. I think her portrayal as Theodora was great and she certainly is believable. However, I couldn't really buy her wicked witch. To me it was just too forced. She seemed like a good girl trying to be a bad witch. It didn't work.

Then again... I might be trying to compare her a little too much to the ever fantastic original Margaret Hamilton.

Is it just me or is the newer witch just WAY TOO MUCH CGI?! Whatever happened to simple original makeup? Let the actor shine, not the digital effects.

Although, Mila Kunis did get the laugh pretty spot on. I'll give her that one.

In the end, I give it a good three stars. ***

You be the judge.

If you've seen the movie feel free to tell me what your take on it was. Remember! No fighting just opinions!

Remember guys!  April 1st is the cover reveal... GET READY!

The Weekend is Here!

Hello fellow readers and authors!
So, as my title says, the weekend is here, and I want to hear what all you guys have planned.

As for myself, I plan on tomorrow being the BEST DAY EVER!
 photo tumblr_m7do11a1Gr1rys4czo1_500_zps7a172b21.gif

I'll do a run through for you guys.

First I plan on making some handmade mother's day cards with my stepdaughter. You know the ones.

Except, knowing myself, I doubt mine will look anything like that. It most likely will have torn edges and glue everywhere. Glitter and gook decorating the floor.

However, I then plan to grab some subway. I love Subway sandwiches and how healthy they are!

Really fantastic! Especially when you're riding a bus and you realize that the back of your ticket is a free subway sandwich coupon! SCORE! Yeah I know, pathetic!

And WHAT?! There's MORE? Yes, yes there is. The whole family is setting out after lunch to see "Oz: The Great and Powerful".

I just might post a spoiler review tomorrow, so no peekies if you want to see but haven't gotten the chance to yet!  I've heard nothing but good things about it and can't wait to feast my eyes on all the stunning visual effects. Though 3D might not be an option considering the movies hike up the tickets by almost $5 each just for the 3D effect. YIKES!

After a long, great day, I plan on coming home and cooking everyone some deliciously delicious Spaghetti and Meatballs. Yummy yummy in my tummy.

A perfect ending, to a perfect day. Yes? Please tell me in the comments below what your plans are for this weekend, whatever they may be!

And... BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!.......

The cover reveal date is SET! The big day is April 1st, so get ready to see some amazingly amazing art and font work by the amazingly amazing PhatpuppyArt and Bookish Brunette.

And because my weekend is going to be so amazing, I'll make yours the same, by giving you a snippet of my upcoming young teen book....

“That stupid girl, freeing me, she’s probably crying and can’t do anything about it.  Who’s she going to get to fight, some little kid friends of hers?”
I sat back into my chair.  I was going to get what I wanted and this time, no one could stop me… not even a little brat and her “heroes.”
“Your majesty!”
My loyal advisor and most trusted confidant—yeah, right!  He’s more like my joker. Damien, who it just so happens is a crow.  He used to be a human until he hesitated when I asked, “Do I look fat in this dress?”
“What is it NOW, Damien…?”
“Y-y-your majesty, the Emily lady has entered the city.  She brought two warriors to fight.  What shall we do?”
So, it turns out she does have courage.  It is such a pity for it to be wasted!
“Nothing, we shall do absolutely nothing.  Watch them. What has my sister said about the matter?”
“Well, your majesty she has sent her servant out to do a deed.  Apparently, she plans to inject the green poison.”
“Hmm, very well.  Thank you, Damien.  That is all for now.  Report to me if anything happens.  I must know immediately if the obtaining of keys occurs.”
“Yes, your majesty.”
My name is Iris.  I am the Crow Queen, the means to an end.

Great Reads for Spring!

Hello Everyone!
So I've been having major trouble coming up with topics for the blog and someone wrote and recommended writing about great reads for spring!

 photo tumblr_lovm1zXf781qznx1ro1_500_zps93de0a6a.gif

We all have those certain books that fit the time of year. You know the ones. Try telling me you don't break out "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" or "A Christmas Carol" in the december month.

If you say you don't... you're most likely lying to yourself ;)

Which is why I will show you some great reads for the spring season.
Of course in the end it all depends on taste, but I'm going to throw out some obvious ones and then some maybe you haven't heard of! I'm including classic easter season/spring books and then some that I feel are just all around great for this time of year.

Hooray! I definitely recommend checking some of these titles out! They are amazing reads and are really fun and fresh. My personal favorites include Watership Down and upcoming My Vampire Spring! Although some of these books are not out yet, the covers and plot lines and extremely inviting and I can't wait to sink my teeth into them :)

Get ready for my cover reveal guys! I'm so excited to show all of you!

Have fun with these and be sure and share some of your favorites as well!

Lazy Sunday

Hello Everyone,
So today is Sunday. Yes, the day others know as the lazy day. Some also refer to it as the day before the dreaded Monday. Monday, the day that starts off our week and either throws us into a spiraling horrible week, or a really great one. Depending on how it starts off.

Which is why I intend to start of this week in a good way. How about the rest of you?

I've got my new book "The Color Keepers" relaunching this April. When I say "relaunch" I mean it was previously up for sale, but because I was clueless on promoting and what I had to do, I quickly became upset at the lack of reviews, views and sales.  Not only that, but I knew it wasn't ready and I pushed it into being so. It still needed to have a little extra, the cover needed an overhaul and most definitely I needed something to spice it up a bit. Which is why, this time around I've added a brand spanking new character (yes, you heard right). Bonus content (added some scenes, took out a few, expanded on thoughts ect...).

And last but not least, a new cover by the amazingly amazing PhatpuppyArt - http://www.phatpuppyart.com

The cover reveal will be REALLY soon and I'm SO excited to share it with you.

And I mean.... EXCITED...

Anyway, I'm off for today so keep calm and carry on!

Favorite Books, Anyone?

Hey Everybody!
So with the release of my book "The Color Keepers" coming up, I'm getting more and more excited every day. Which is why I thought, why not share all our favorite books with everyone! I love reading.

Sometimes I'll finish one and get so excited I have to tell everyone about it!

Then you blab on and on and eventually you find that one person...

Who agrees that there is more to a book than it's pictures? *Raises Hand*
Society has become so watered down, that I find it hard to have stimulating conversation with people my age (20).  Which is why today's blog is about....

YOUR FAVORITE BOOKS!

So, without further ado, I give you....

***DRUM ROLL***

My favorite books (and yes, I realize Twilight is included, but I can't help it. *nervous smile*)

So yes, I realize some of these are kids books, but let's not forget, classics never die, ESPECIALLY Dr. Seuss and Roald Dahl, who in my opinion are brilliant and my childhood wouldn't have been complete without them :) There of course are so many more, but I'm afraid I'd keep you here for years. So please, tell me in the comments what your favorite books are and maybe even include your favorite authors for the fun of it! I'd definitely love to hear!

See you guys soon, when my book "The Color Keepers" is released this April!

The Color Keepers

First and Foremost...
HELLO and WELCOME!

My first ever book is to be relaunched this April!

It will include bonus content, a new character and a brand new cover!
Cover art by the amazingly brilliant Phatpuppy Art.

I am so excited, especially after perfecting it and re-perfecting it for over 4 years.

It has been a long time and a lot of hard work was put into it. It originally stemmed from a dream I had and something inside me just told me I had to write it down.
I had already really enjoyed writing and so this task was no trouble for me.

I wrote the first draft and it wasn't something I wanted to portray my writing skills as or my story telling. So I scrapped it. Keeping the first chapter the same throughout the whole journey. The release this release is a big thing for me. I've started on several other projects since finishing.

I write mostly fantasy/adventure novels but the new one I'm working on is more of a horror/adventure.

The Color Keepers definitely caters to both genders and is more for the younger teen group of readers.

I really can't wait to hear all of your reviews and opinions on my first book.
